Another history made in Kogi as Yahaya Bello is sworn in as governor, without a deputy

Today, Yahaya Bello, was sworn in without a deputy. James Faleke, the man nominated by the APC to be his deputy, made real his threat not to present himself for swearing in with the governor. It is the
first time in Nigeria, that an elected governor would be inaugurated without a deputy.

The state made the first history late last year when a leading governorship candidate, Abubakar Audu, died before the governorship election was concluded. Faleke, who was his running mate, had objected to the party’s decision to replace Audu with Bello and not him. He then approached the election tribunal in the state asking it to declare him governor-elect.

He contended that the election had been won and lost before Audu died and that he (Faleke) should have been pronounced governor-elect. Faleke has repeatedly claimed that he was not consulted or taken into confidence by anyone regarding the choice of Mr. Bello as Audu’s replacement.
