The FG today, said it has stopped the commercialisation of Niprisan, used to manage sickle-cell anaemia. It was previously licenced to a pharmaceutical company for sale but the price continued to increase, thereby
making it less affordable and scarce.
The company’s license was then withdrawn. It was commercially sold at the rate of N3,500 but the FG is currently dispensing same at the rate of N300. It’s now being produced and sold at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Research Development (NIPRD).
It is no longer sold in pharmacies; you only get it at the Institute. The move was part of the social corporate responsibility of the FG to Nigerians. The drug increases the wellbeing of people with sickle cell as significant improvement has been observed…… I can finally smile…….
