Nigeria yesterday dropped five places from its previous 37th position to now occupy the 42th position on the latest FIFA rankings released yesterday.

The Super Eagles uninspiring displays against Sudan and Congo in the AFCON 2015 qualifiers resulted in the free fall of the African champions to the number nine spot in the African rankings. Countries like Cape Verde and Senegal were listed ahead of Nigeria in the current standings.

The Les Fennecs of Algeria, who have won four out of their four AFCON 2015 qualifiers, are now the number one team in the continent with 989 points and 15th in the world ranking ahead of England.

Nigeria is ranked behind Cote d’ Ivoire who dropped from the top spot to the second place in the October rankings. Tunisia, Ghana, Cameroun, Cape Verde, Egypt and Senegal are the other countries in the African top ten.

Evidently, the goalless draw in South Africa and the 1-0 loss to Sudan didn’t do the Eagles any good in the latest rankings.
Meanwhile, World Cup winners, Germany still maintains the number one spot in the world. Argentina and Colombia are in second and third respectively while Brazil, who hosted the FIFA World Cup lie in sixth place on the world rankings.
