Rarest Cars

In the mood for a new car? Why not treat yourself to a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB. Theres only one catch, though: its one of the rarest cars in the world. Only ten of the cars were ever built, and one sold at auction in August of 2013 for $27.5 million. You could buy over 100 new Ferraris for the cost of that one vintage car. But a 1954 Mercedes W196 is even more expensive. Fourteen units of the one-seat sports car were built, but only ten remain. In July of 2013, one of the cars sold for over $29 million; its value was made high by the fact that it was once driven by Formula 1 racer Juan Manuel Fangio. As rare as these cars are, though, the 1931 Bugatti Royale had only six units built. Designed to be purchased by royalty and the super rich, production was hindered by the onset of the Great Depression. One of the cars sold at auction in 1987 for a then-record price of $9.8 million, but the value is believed to be closer to $19 million today. But nothing can summit the 1938 Phantom Corsair when it comes to rarity. Only one prototype of the car was ever built. Designed by Rust Heinz, a member of the Heinz ketchup family, the car was notable for its sleek, modern design, which some compared to the Batmobile. But Heinz died in a car smash in 1939 before additional units could be built. The car is now on display at the National Automotive Museum in Reno, Nevada and is estimated to have a value around $10 milliona comparative bargain in the rare car market.
