Jason Dufner: Landed the US PGA by two shots

America's Jason Dufner produced a rock-solid final round of two-under 68 to claim a maiden major victory in the US PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

Dufner had failed to convert a fantastic winning chance in this tournament two years ago but this time he out-duelled overnight leader Jim Furyk to win by two shots and earn redemption.
Dufner began the day one behind Furyk but birdied four and five to reach 10-under and move ahead, only for Furyk to roll in a 35-footer for an unlikely birdie on six.

The duo were two clear of the field after that and Dufner then re-took the lead thanks to a brilliant approach shot at eight which rolled back to within inches of the hole.
That birdie took him to 11-under and he was two clear when he made a good par at nine where Furyk bogeyed.
Dufner had thrown away a five-shot lead in the closing stages in 2011 but he was solid on the back nine this time, making a string of steady pars before a brilliant approach at 16 secured another tap-in birdie.

Furyk squanders his chance

Furyk rolled in a good putt to birdie that hole himself and remain within two shots but then squandered a great chance to put Dufner under pressure at 17, fluffing a chip and making a bogey which meant Dufner's somewhat careless three-putt bogey was not too costly.

Two behind at 18, Furyk completed a slightly disappointing final round of 71 with another bogey and Dufner could afford to take five himself, hitting his approach short, chipping onto the green from thick greenside rough and then rolling his putt to within tap-in range.
Henrik Stenson finished alone in third on seven-under after a 70, threatening to take a hand after an eagle three at the fourth but coming home in one-over from there.
His fellow Swede Jonas Blixt was fourth after a lively 70, dropping shots at the first two holes, reaching two-under for the day at 14 with a third birdie in five holes but then bogeying three of the last four.
America's Scott Piercy shot the best round of the day, going on an amazing tear from the third, which yielded six birdies in 10 holes, including three in a row from the seventh.
He added two more birdies over the closing holes but also dropped a couple of shots and finished tied for fifth with Adam Scott, who shot a 70.

Bad day for Westwood

Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood began the day six shots off the pace but, playing together, they both struggled early on.

Rory McIlroy - good week

Defending champion McIlroy birdied the third but then took a triple-bogey seven at five when his approach span back off the green and onto the rocks on the edge of a water hazard.
He bounced back well, playing the rest of the round in two-under to card a 70 and tie for eighth at three-under but Westwood went bogey-double bogey at two and three, limped to the turn in 41, and finished with a 76.
But Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell (66) and Scotland's Marc Warren (69) both produced good final rounds to end up tied for 12th.
World number one Tiger Woods finished in a tie for 40th after a closing 70.
