Civil Disorder on Ore-Benin RoadA trailer crushed to death a young man on Sunday, on the Ore-Benin road.The road accident happened at Kajola in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The deceased was a footballer, known at his community as “Mikel”.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the victim was crossing the expressway.
As an act of revenge, the villagers set the trailer on fire, causing a gridlock on the highway for several hours.
A source reported that the situation has worsened when some soldiers allegedly shot at the protesters.
Many people were reportedly injured and vehicles vandalised.
One of the villagers said: “The protest was hijacked by hoodlums, who extorted money from the stranded motorists. Some drivers and their passengers abandoned their vehicles and fled into the bush. It was an ugly incident.”
The Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Wole Ogodo confirmed the incident and said the command was in control of the situation.
