Police arrest woman who battered her niece for eating Afam soup

On Thursday, January 14, 2016, Comfort Essie, 32, a nanny from Ikot-Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State, with a club used in stirring amala, peeled the buttocks of her niece, Queendaline Phillips, 9, for secretly

eating out of the Afam soup given to them by their neighbor.

In school, Phillips, a Primary 1 pupil, complained of pains and this prompted her teacher to report the incident at the FESTAC Police Division. Officials of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation have now provided a temporary shelter for her.
