Alao-Akala’s driver shot dead in Ibadan

Armed robbers yesterday struck in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, killing one of the senior drivers in the household of the former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Saturday Mirror learnt that the deceased, identified as Alhaji Alabi Ajikobi, had gone to a bank to cash some unspecified amount of money when he was shot by the suspected armed robbers.
It was further gathered that Ajikobi was attached to the former first lady, Chief (Mrs.) Oluwakemi Alao-Akala. Alao-Akala, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is re-contesting the governorship seat he lost to Governor Abiola Ajimobi in 2011.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, confirmed to journalists that the driver of the ex-governor was shot and killed on his way from the bank.
Her words, “It is true (Ajiobi’s death). We learnt that he went to a bank to collect some money. On his way, a man stopped him and had some discussion with him. Then, two men on a bike shot him and collected the money away.
“We are on the trail of that man that stopped him. We have already begun investigation on the matter.”
