When SlimT gashed into the music scene early 2011 with “Die Representing” he only had to

roll out the remix the following year to make a mark and have many of us noticing not to talk of “O
Bad Gan”. Now, Adetayo Temilade Okeowo has reappeared with “The Uprising Mixtape” in which
he recruited the services of Oyinkansola, Fatboi, Boogey, J.Berg and DX-Phase to make the 32:53
compilation a worthwhile one.
SlimT has done well applaudable with #TUM except for a few hiccups which are pardonable (for
now). Read the broad track-to-track review for broader view.

INTRO
SlimT cracked the mixtape open with this hilarious skit. Your thoughts would have to be off the hook to
make a better Intro for a body of work that is suppose to explode the music scene. This is funny, creative
and intelligent and before you know it, you have started to savor the mixtape to come.

INCREDIBLE SLIM T feat. Oyinkansola (Tinie Tempah cover)
This verse is a brag verse expressing dopeness and rise in the music scene. Well, I would say you must
sure know how to this as a rap act. The choice of song to cover is nice; it matched the tempo of the
intro. The guest was superb as she helped adequately deliver the idea of getting the verse into the
club’s playlist. Lyrical content is kinda poor here which is understandable – a fast tempo song to water
the appetite of people that wants to dance to music not content. Songs like this are essential for a rap
compilation nowadays.

LEADER feat. Fatboi (Nicki Minaj cover)
We all know how Nicki’s beats are constructed. slimT deployed Fatboi on this number and they sure
made a good team. They didn’t do any less than the original Nicki Minaj’s, dope bars, well laced. At the
end of this song I said to myself – this is a rap song cover and this is slimT. I can only wish the song had
been longer.

RADIO FLOW (Gym Class Heroes)
We all loved the Gym Class Heroes version and wanted to bring back the memories to which we could
have been thankful to slimT for this verse but somewhere along the line something went wrong which I
don’t know. The bars were well laced and produced but the originality was just somehow shaking. The
song would have also made a good outro for the mixtape than placing it No.4 which is another low.

SLIM T PALAVA (skit)
Skits are always wonderful, they are suppose to give us a break, this funny one did that perfectly and
slimT drafted this in the middle of the mixtape which makes it a double GO (and permit me to say this
for the record, I need an autograph from MC Yoyo).

MONEY AND THE POWER (Kid Ink cover)
slimT’s sense of choice of songs for this mixtape is very dope. This is another land marking oldies to
which this time, I found what he was actually covering. He was hitting at the struggle, the hustle (which
is the indirect anthem of rap), the touches of vanacular made it nicer and this time Mr. Tayo screwed
the owner of the beat again. It seems to me as slimT’s kinda beat so it would be insane if he doesn’t kill

SPOKEN WORDS
This seems to me like another break but somehow it’s not, the poem was well needed. This is some
new advancement to skit. We are used to rappers hanging their artistry around word play but slim T is
parading a poetry angle here perfectly. This is one of the tracks that would catch a breath.

STARTED FROM ISALE (Drake cover)
Started from the bottom is a song we are well familiar with. Aside the Drake’s original, I have listened to
about 6 very dope version of this song and slimT again didn’t make the list of dope. I asked myself again
where the originality is. It all sounded like he was caught unaware (unprepared) for the song. Lyrical
cohesion and the entire music adhesion are a bit low.

CYPHER feat, Boogey, J.Berg, DX-Phase (Olamide cover)
Boogey on this is like serving a lion with goat. J.Berg is definitely not in this planet, the guy matched up
with Boogey and DX-Phase. There isn’t a single disappointment here at all. It’s a house filled with beat
devourers like slimT said he put them (Boogey, J.Berg, DX-Phase) on so they can murder as he closes the
mixtape with dopest 16 you could have heard from him.

SHOUTOUTS (Outro)
The wonderful work done is closing by this Outro and slimT’s got loved ones, loved ones got him too
and they all juxtaposed on this verse. I personally love the respect thing; it’s bigger than money for me.
Shout outs are always wonderful feelings and your name might just be on it.
