Dangote and Gates Lead World's Billionaires

Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft Corporation, world's largest software maker is world's richest man. The Bloomberg billionaires' index put Gates' net worth at $78.5 billion. That is an astronomical increase by $15.8 billion from his worth last year.  Gates has therefore taken back the number one position from Carlos Slim, the Mexican investor.

However, while Slim lost his lead to Gates, Nigeria's Aliko Dangote, chairman of the Dangote Group retains his position as Africa's richest man. He has a net worth of $30 billion. Dangote, a shrewd business man, has his empire spread across the continent. He was said to have added $9.2 billion last year.

Dangote is into cement manufacturing and production of salt and food items. But his cement business appears the king of his investment, which transcends Nigeria, as he maintains plants in other African countries including Senegal and Ghana.

He is the 30th richest person in the world.
