Ray-Ban has produced a limited-edition pair of aviators made from 18-karat gold.
The glasses, touted as the 'ultimate gift of luxury with style', will go on sale in November for $3,800.
Looking identical to the traditional model, which starts from $145, only 1,200 set of the luxurious replicas have been made. The frame and arms of Ray-Ban's new glasses are made from solid yellow gold. And the distinctive teardrop lenses are shaped out of polarized crystal.
Ray-Ban says that the 'prestige of the new model is apparent to anyone who sees them - and even more so to those who wear them.'
Launched in 1937, Ray-Ban's aviator frames were initially designed for U.S. Air Force pilots, who wore them for maximum protection from the sun's rays on high altitude flights.
The original model was made with a plastic frame but later redesigned in metal.
Today, the aviator is an accessory worn by men and women alike.
Ray-Ban, which was founded in Milan, Italy, has presented a number of variations on the original design over the years, using different materials and colors.
