Osun state’s chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday declared that the factional national secretary of the party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, was on his own, stressing that his position did not represent that of the party in the state.
Prince Oyinlola, former governor of the state, was last Saturday, appointed secretary of former vice president Atiku Abubakar-led faction of PDP, in Abuja.
But the party in the state, after an emergency meeting attended by stakeholders of the party, said it was opposed to any form of factionalisation of the party in whatever guise.
In the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting by the chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, the party insisted that it has implicit confidence in the leadership of the party at the national level.
Similarly, the communiqué also passed a vote of confidence on president Goodluck Jonathan and the newly elected working committee led by Alhaji Bamangar Tukur and other newly elected working committee members.
The party promised that come 2014 gubernatorial election in Osun State, PDP was assured of victory and will also deliver the state for President Goodluck Jonathan come 2015 presidential election.
According to the communiqué: “The party in Osun is ever formidable and as such will not support factionalisation while urging any member that has any issue with the party to follow the path of consultation rather than confrontation.”
The meeting, according to the communiqué, was attended by Alhaji Shuaibu Oyedokun, a member of BOT, Erelu Olusola Obada, Minister of Defence, Dr Olu Alabi, Engr Jide Adeniji, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Chief Abiola Ogundokun and Chief Francis Fadahunsi, among others.
