Disappointing sixth for Okagbare
Blessing Okagbare was forced to settle for sixth place in the women's 100m final at the World Championships in Moscow on Monday evening.
Victory went to double Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who turned up the heat when she needed it most in the final, storming to victory in 10.71s.
Mureille Ahoure of the Ivory Coast won silver in 10.93, while American Carmelita Jeter claimed the bronze medal in 10.94.
There had been fears that Okagbare, who carried the hopes of her country on her shoulders, had peaked too early with her recent strong performances in Diamond League events, and that proved to be the case as she finished down in sixth place with a time of 11.04 - well below the African record time of 10.79 she set when she beat Fraser-Pryce in London at the end of July.
For now, Okagbare will have to be content with the silver medal she won in the long jump event on Sunday.
