Lloyd To Face Six-Count Charges Of Attempted Murder

Six-count charge of attempted murder has been filed by the police against Rivers State House of Assembly majority leader, Hon. Chidi Lloyd.

The charges were filed at the state High Court, Port Harcourt, the state capital on Monday, though the file is yet to be assigned to any judge for hearing.
Mr. Lloyd, who is going to face trial for causing serious injuries to his colleague – Michael Chinda – using a mace on Tuesday, 9 July, 2013, on the floor of the House, was declared wanted by the police in connection with the violence after he failed to honour its invitation.
However, Mr. Lloyd turned himself in last week at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, and after interrogation at the Force Crime Investigations Department (FCID), was on Friday transferred back to Port Harcourt in preparation for his arraignment.

Deputy Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Mr. Frank Mba, who confirmed that the charges had been filed against the majority leader on Monday, said they (police) would go ahead and prove that he is guilty of the charges leveled against him.
According to Mba, a Chief Superintendent of Police, the six-count charge bordered on conspiracy, attempted murder, causing bodily harm and act intended to cause grievous harm.
He added that all the charges were filed under the Rivers State Criminal Code.
